Rescues in Oregon

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Firefighters with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said they rescued five people Friday afternoon from a fire at an apartment complex.

According to TVF&R, one of those people was a woman who was trapped by smoke in her third-floor apartment at Southwest Farmington Road and 139th Avenue.

Firefighters said the woman called 911 at about 3:40 p.m. as her apartment filled with smoke. While still on the line, she opened a window to let in fresh air. Firefighters couldn’t get to her through the apartment because of the smoke and flames, so they used a ladder to reach her third-floor unit.

Firefighters also used a ladder to rescue four more people trapped on the third floor. Everyone else got out of the apartment complex.

Firefighters also saved two dogs and several reptiles.

The five people who were rescued were treated at the scene.

Firefighters said the two-alarm fire burned on the second story of a three-story apartment building. The cause is still under investigation.

Farmington Road was closed in all directions from Erickson to Murray Boulevard for most of the afternoon.

The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire.
