Glendale firefighters rescued a woman from the Los Angeles River Monday evening, authorities said.

At around 6:30 p.m., a passerby noticed the woman on an island in the river near the Riverside Drive bridge while the water was rising, said Glendale Fire spokeswoman Brandy Villanueva. A firefighter was lowered into the water to reach the woman. Officials used a ladder truck to hoist her out just before 7:30 p.m. Officials also reportedly pulled out her bicycle and backpack.

Burbank, Pasadena and Los Angeles firefighters assisted with the rescue. After paramedics assessed her for injuries, the woman was determined to be unharmed and released at the scene.

Fire officials warned residents to stay out of the river when it rains, as the water level can rise quickly and put lives in danger.
