OAKLAND, Calif. —
An elderly man was hospitalized in critical condition after being pulled from a burning house in Oakland early Saturday morning.
Fire officials told KTVU that a father and son were at the home on 10700 block of Acalanes Drive when the fire started shortly before 3:30 a.m.
While the son was able to get out of the home on his own, the elderly man in his 70s was pulled out of house by firefighters.
The son informed firefighters that his father was still inside the house when crews arrived.
A fire captain at the scene said the victim was breathing but unconscious when he was pulled from the back bedroom of the house.
Firefighters said the man wasn’t easy to get to because of security bars on window that had to be cut because they lacked a quick-release mechanism.
