Firefighters Rescue Two From High-Rise Fire In Glenview
GLENVIEW, Ill. (CBS) – Firefighters rescued two people from a burning building overnight, after huge fire tore through a high-rise condo building in Glenview.
CBS 2’s Dana Kozlov reports residents at 3925 Triumvera Dr. were jolted awake when a fire started in a 9th floor condo shortly before 12:30 a.m. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy flames and smoke pouring out of the window of the unit on fire.
“I heard the fire alarm. I went out on the terrace. I saw a fire. I yelled for us to get out,” resident Bonnie Brandt said.
Firefighters ran through the building to get people out, and rescued two people from a 9th floor balcony, just a few feet away from the flames.
“I was scared. I was nervous. I was shaking more than I have ever before,” said Sungwon Choi, one of the two people rescued from the balcony. “I was like, ‘I have to get out alive. I have to be safe. I have to make it. I have to do what the fireman says.’ Just survival; that was the only thing on my mind.”
The condo that caught fire was gutted by flames, but no one was seriously hurt.
“They got the fire out pretty quick, got everybody out [and] accounted for on all floors. A couple injuries, but nobody was transported,” said Glenview Fire Chief Wayne Globerger.
After the fire was put out, crews went to work cleaning up shards of glass, after firefighters broke some windows to help fight the fire, and others were shattered by the heat.
