Oct. 03–Firefighters rescued a 79-year-old Hanover woman from her burning home early Thursday morning.

Hanover and Penn Township crews were called to a home in the 100 block of Deguy Avenue at 2:50 a.m. and discovered the woman was trapped inside, according to Hanover Fire Chief Jan Cromer.

Firefighters rescued her from the home and discovered she was suffering from smoke inhalation and first- and second-degree burns, the chief said in a news release.

She was transported to Hanover Hospital, then flown by medical helicopter to the burn center at Allentown’s Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cromer said.

Crews extinguished the fire within 10 minutes, he said.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, but it is not suspicious, according to Cromer, who said Hanover fire officials, Hanover Police and a state police fire marshal investigated.
