DOVER, Delaware — Firefighters rescued an elderly woman who was trapped in her home after a fire broke out shortly before noon on Monday.
The fire was on Tall Pines Drive, a mobile home community off South State Street — about half-mile south of Del. 10 and immediately west of Tidbury Park.
The woman, whose age was not released, was immediately taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital for what appeared to be burns, said Camden-Wyoming Fire Co. Chief Tom Rigsby.
Chief Rigsby said when they arrived on the scene a Delaware State Police trooper updated them on the situation and told them about the trapped woman. The state trooper was unable to get to the woman because of heat and smoke, he said.
Firefighters were able to rescue the woman after locating her in the room with the fire, knocking it down and removing her, said the chief. She was taken to the hospital in Dover by Magnolia’s ambulance service.
No other injuries were reported, but two people were taken to the hospital for evaluation, said Chief Rigsby.
The state Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire, but as of Monday afternoon, there had been no word on possible causes, said Chief Rigsby.
