Plainfield firefighters today rescued an unconscious man from a North Avenue apartment in one of two fires reported two minutes apart, reports nj.com.
At 11:58 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire in a home on Allenwood Drive.
Then at noon, firefighters received a report of a fire on the first floor of a four-story apartment building at 171 North Ave., across the street from the train station, Deputy Chief Jeffrey Courtney said.
He said firefighters found smoke just outside the first-floor unit and quickly began evacuating residents from 12 units on the second, third and fourth floors.
“We found one man unconscious in a fourth-floor apartment and brought him out,” Courtney said.
He said city emergency responders revived the man, who suffered smoke inhalation but did not require hospital treatment.
The fire was contained to the first-floor unit, but there was smoke and heat damage throughout the building, Courtney said. He said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
