WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. – After more than four hours, crews with Washington County Fire and Rescue pulled out the man who was trapped chest deep inside a grain bin in Boonsboro.
The incident was reported just before 2:30 p.m. on a farm on 18025 Keedysville Road.
Rescue crews told WHAG that the man who was stuck inside the silo-like structure is a worker on the farm. They say he fell inside while working, and sunk chest-deep in to the corn grain inside. Two other men jumped inside to try and rescue the man, however their efforts failed.
Deputies with the Washington County Sherif’s Office say it was a tricky rescue – in order to get the two men out they would be risking the trapped man sinking deeper in to the grain. Crews worked over the spanning hours to give the trapped man space and breathing room.
Multiple crews, including Md. State Police’s Trooper 3 helicopter were on scene as a precaution.
The trapped man, as well as the two other men inside the grain bin with him were rescued around 6:45 p.m. The victim was taken to Meritus Medical Center for treatment. The other two men are reported to be okay.
More than 50 emergency units responded to this incident Wednesday.
