Norwalk Man Rescued from Under a Car

Dec. 09–Norwalk firefighters used two hydraulic jacks and some cribbing to remove a man who was trapped under a Chevrolet Camaro and pinned to the garage floor early Sunday.

The Norwalk Police Department received a 9-1-1 call transferred from the Huron County Sheriff’s Office at 3:50 a.m. about the incident at 125 Woodlawn Ave. Capt. Dan Hunt, of the fire department, said the victim was able to reach a phone and call 9-1-1.

“He must have had his phone on him,” added Hunt, who said the man was outside in his garage working on the car. “They used equipment he had there to get the vehicle off him.”

Capt. Brett Beers was one of the firefighters at the scene.

“It appeared the car slipped off the jack. The car was supported by the three other wheels. The corner of the car was resting on the owner,” he said.

Beers said firefighters had the victim out from the under the car in seven minutes.

“It appeared that he had internal injuries,” said Beers, who didn’t have information on the extent of those possible injuries. “He was alert and talking to us.”

The crew stabilized the victim, whose name and age weren’t provided, and assisted North Central EMS in loading him into an ambulance. North Central transported the man to Fisher-Titus Medical Center.

Norwalk police officers and a deputy assisted at the scene.
