SAN JOSE — Firefighters rescued a homeless man who became trapped in waist-deep waters of Coyote Creek on Friday morning near the San Jose Municipal golf course.
The man was rescued at about 5:30 a.m., according to San Jose Fire Capt. Reggie Williams.
Firefighters got a call just after 5 a.m. that a homeless man was stuck in the frigid waters of the creek, Williams said. The fire department sent its urban search and rescue team to the area.
“We had a hard time locating him,” Williams said. “We could hear him but couldn’t find him.”
Eventually firefighters found the man waist deep in water holding on to trees and debris, Williams said.
The man was pulled out of the water and taken to a hospital to be treated for fatigue and hypothermia, Williams said.
Firefighters do not know how long the man was stuck in the creek.
