PORTLAND, Ore. — A teenage girl suffered life-threatening injuries when she fell off Rocky Butte in Portland and tumbled about 40 feet Friday night, authorities said.
Rescuers responded to the parking lot of Portland Bible College at around 10:45 p.m. They had to use ropes and a pulley system to lift the girl to safety.
The girl, whose name has not been released, was rushed to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in serious condition. Authorities have not released any other specifics, except that she was in her early teens.
It was unknown what the teen was doing on Rocky Butte before she fell. But investigators said the area can be very deceiving, especially at night.
“The top of that area is really difficult to see where the edge begins. The trees grow up so it makes the lip of that cliff very difficult to see,” one of the rescuers explained to KGW.
It took rescuers about an hour to get the girl out of the dangerous terrain and into the ambulance.
