Three young children are in the hospital after firefighters rescued them from an apartment fire in Southwest Fresno late Sunday morning. It happened just after 11:30 a.m. on Church near Fig.
Fire crews responded to the apartment complex and found light smoke. They went into rescue mode after learning that the three children — ages 1, 2 and 3 — were still inside the apartment, according to Pete Martinez of the Fresno fire Department. Firefighters rescued all three kids from the burning unit and treated them at the scene, he said.
The children were transported to Community Regional Medical Center. Their conditions are not known at this time.
Investigators are still trying to figure out the cause of the fire, but they say it is believed to have started in the living room. Two apartment units were damaged by the flames.
The children’s parents were there at the time of the fire, but it’s not known if they were with the kids, according to Martinez.
