A man who was sleeping in a trash dumpster in Fort Valley Friday morning had to be rescued after being dumped into a garbage truck at the Old Wander Lodge Plant.
The driver of the garbage truck heard screaming from inside of the truck and saw 29-year-old Brian Keith Brown attempting to climb out of the side of the truck as the container was being emptied.
The driver immediately called 911 and requested help. Brown was pulled out of the truck by firefighters and police officers from the Fort Valley Department of Public Safety. He was treated at the scene then taken to the Peach County Medical Center.
“Thanks to the quick thinking of the garbage truck driver, the proper personnel were sent and were able to quickly,” Lawrence Spurgeon, the director of public safety in Fort Valley, stated in a news release. “Without his quick reaction, this could have easily been a tragic situation. We are just glad no one was seriously injured or hurt.”
