A woman was rushed to hospital in serious condition after she was pulled from a house fire Tuesday night

A spokesperson for the Toronto Fire Services previously said the woman had died, but later said he was given incorrect information.

The victim, who has not been identified, was found at the rear of a burning detached home. Firefighters were called to that home on Winona Drive, located in the Eglinton Avenue and Bathurst Street area, shortly after 7 p.m.

Toronto Fire Services say smoke and flames were visible when crews arrived on scene. As they attempted to extinguish the blaze, the victim was discovered in a ground-floor bedroom.

She was taken to hospital. Three other people were also in the home and were treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to investigate the blaze.
