One woman was rescued and seven people were injured in a west Arlington duplex fire Saturday morning.
The fire was reported about 8 a.m. in the 2400 block of Ventura Drive just south of Arkansas Lane, said Lt. Lee Tovar, an Arlington Fire Department spokesman.
The fire escalated to two alarms after crews learned a woman who lives in the home was trapped inside.
When firefighters arrived, the home’s five other residents were taking turns going into the home in an attempt to get the woman out, KDFW-TV (Channel 4) reported. Firefighters rescued the woman, Tovar said, and she was taken to Medical Center Arlington with burns on her arms and legs that were not believed to be severe.
Five other residents and a neighbor were taken to hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation. One of them was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital with second-degree hand burns, Tovar said.
The six duplex residents were in their 50s to 80s, Tovar said.
No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
