Anderson County Fire Chief Billy Gibson said a woman was rescued from a fire at her Anderson home Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called to Wexford Condominiums off East Greenville Street in Anderson around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday.

A resident of the complex reported smelling smoke, and that woman’s neighbor called 911, Gibson said.

When firefighters arrived they were able to get the woman who had smelled smoke, and her cat, off her balcony. The woman received medical treatment at the scene, and there were no other reported injuries, Gibson said.

Three fire stations with one ladder truck responded, and one station was placed on standby. It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control, Gibson said.

The fire was contained to the one third-floor condominium, and as of 5 a.m. all the residents of the surrounding condominiums had been allowed to return to their homes, Gibson said.

The case remains under investigation.
