A woman in her 20s was rescued by firefighters this afternoon after she became trapped underneath a Red Line train at the MBTA Shawmut station in Dorchester this afternoon, officials said.
Firefighters responded to the station at about 1:25 p.m., where they found the woman under a train on the northbound side of the station, said MBTA spokeswoman Kelly Smith.
“She was conscious under the train, and so what we did is initiate a technical rescue with specially trained units,” said Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald.
Firefighters worked with the MBTA to shut off power in the station before rescuing her. Once freed, she was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Her injuries appeared to be serious, but not life-threatening, officials said.
MBTA Transit Police are investigating how she got under the train.
Shuttles buses replaced train service between the JFK/UMass and Ashmont stops, according to an MBTA service alert. The MBTa said shortly after 3 p.m. that normal service had resumed.
