WASHINGTON BOROUGH, NJ— An elderly woman was rescued from the second floor of a residential home on Broad Street, and was later medevacked from the baseball field at Washington Borough Park at 1:45 p.m.

The fire started at 11:40 a.m. today at 209 Broad Street, according to police Lt. James Teter. At the time, an officer attempted to enter the home, but was unable to determine if any residents were inside.

The officer rescued a cat that was taken by Animal Control for veterinary services for treatment, and the officer was taken to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation, Teter said.

Fireman put out the flames at the residence by 12:30 p.m., officials said. Stay with NJ.com for this developing story.
