Firefighters rescued a man from the second floor of a South Buffalo home this morning, fire officials said.

The conscious victim was taken by ambulance to South Buffalo Mercy Hospital.

Four people were in the second floor apartment at 54 Remoleno St. when the fire broke out, according to Amelia Lucinao, one of the residents.

She said three made it out of the apartment on their own but that the man had to be rescued by firefighters.

Two cats also were rescued.

The fire, which started in the oven, according to Luciano, was confined to the second floor. It was called in at about 7 a.m. and brought under control at 7:20 a.m., fire officials said.

Remoleno runs between Southside Parkway and Dash Street, near Heacock Park.

Damage was estimated at $35,000 damage.
