CPR Save in Ottawa
Two Ottawa firefighters were in the right place at the right time Saturday morning when a man collapsed at a Robertson Road Loblaws store.
The firefighters were shopping just a few aisles away when the 65-year-old man fell to the floor at approximately 10:30 a.m.
With the man exhibiting no vital signs, department spokesman Marc Messier said the firefighters began performing CPR, while other crew members brought in a defibrillator and medical equipment from the truck parked outside.
They administered two shocks before paramedics arrived at 10:35 a.m. and a third shock was administered, finally reviving the man.
Ottawa Paramedic Service superintendent Michael O’Brien confirmed that the man had suffered a cardiac arrest. He was awake and talking to paramedics while being transferred to the Ottawa Heart Institute in critical condition.
