A 14-year-old boy was rescued by Milwaukee firefighters Thursday afternoon during a blaze on the city’s north side, a fire official said.
The boy had no pulse and was not breathing when firefighters found him in a second-floor hallway of the home in the 2900 block of N. 37th St., where the blaze was reported shortly before 1 p.m., Deputy Fire Chief Terry Lintonen said.
Paramedics revived the boy in a med unit outside the home before he was taken to Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Lintonen said.
The boy’s condition was not available Thursday night.
According to Lintonen, the fire, which began in a second-floor dining area of the two-and-a-half story wood-frame duplex, was brought under control shortly after 1 p.m.
The cause was still under investigation.
There were no working smoke detectors inside the house and damage was estimated at about $60,000, Lintonen said.
Firefighters from Battalions 1 and 2 responded to the blaze and will be in the area Friday to check for smoke detectors and install them if necessary, Lintonen said.
