Phoenix firefighters rescued a man Sunday morning who was trapped on a Papago Park cliff overlooking an approximate 300-foot drop, an official said.
The Phoenix Fire Department responded at about 9:30 a.m. to a call near 625 N. Galvin Parkway after hikers dialed 911 because a man was stuck on a steep cliff without hand or foot holds, Phoenix fire spokesman Capt. Jonathan Jacobs said.
Rescue crews used a rappel system and safety harness to get the man off the mountain.
Jacobs said the man, who was combative during the rescue, was then taken to a hospital.
No firefighters were injured during the two-hour operation, Jacobs said.
There were three other rescues Sunday, one in the Dreamy Draw Recreation Area and two at South Mountain Park, Jacobs said.
