ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A St. Louis man owes his life to the city’s firefighters who rushed to his burning home last night.
St. Louis Fire Department Captain Dan Sutter says it all began around 7:38 pm Tuesday with a fire call in the 4100 block of Ohio Avenue.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames shooting from the rear of the home. They used an outside ladder to get to the man trapped on the second floor because the stairs had burned away.
“They began to revive the unconscious victim and it took a lift to get him down because of his condition and the circumstances, not having a stairwell,” Sutter explained.
Once outside, firefighters revived the man and he was rushed to the hospital.
Officials have not released the name of the rescued occupant or the possible cause of the fire.
The news was less fortunate from another fire on Tuesday. A 51-year-old man was pulled out of a burning home on Plymouth in University City but later died at a hospital.
Investigators believe a space heater may have touched off the deadly blaze.
